SHIP - Summit Helping Its People

Temple Sinai’s Social Action Committee and our Temple community at large is committed to helping the Summit area working poor through supporting the SHIP program. Generous Temple Sinai members volunteer to provide dinner on the third Sunday of every month at the Calvary Church, 31 Woodland Avenue (DeForest entrance). DROP OFF between 10:00-10:30am during COVID-19 restrictions; serving about 25 adult guests.  We need more volunteers, so please sign up to to deliver a main course and salad, a side dish, bread & butter and/or dessert.  For questions, please contact Leslie Moorman by emailing Office@templesinainj.org or, for Leslie's direct contact information, log into the Temple's Membership Directory on our website.  "Sinai’s Social Action Committee helps the Summit area working poor.

Summit Warm Hearts

Summit Warm Hearts is a program of the Summit Interfaith Council. They opened their doors in January 2020 to neighbors without shelter. Neighbors include friends who have grown up in Summit, lived here for decades and with whom the community has had enduring connections.

2021-22 Winter Program: Beginning November 17, 2021, the day program runs from Monday through Saturday, 9AM - 1 pm and on Sundays, 1 - 4 pm. They provide lunch, snacks, a shower, coordination for laundry, and connection points to vital services like medical care and social services. The daily program shuts down on March 31st. Overnight shelter is provided at an offsite location with support from Bridges Outreach and GRACE and dinner is provided for guests at the overnight shelter.

This work is made possible by volunteers from across Summit and beyond including many of the 19 houses of worship that make up the Summit Interfaith Council. Bridges Outreach and GRACE have provided critical community support to Summit Warm Hearts. There are many ways to support this program which is eliminating homelessness in the  community. Consider volunteering your time as a host, readying a lunch or dinner, or making a donation. Every ounce of effort helps to build Summit Warm Hearts.
