L'Taken 2020

To Grades 10, 11 and 12!

You have an opportunity to join 400 teens from across the nation -- Texas, Florida, greater NYC and more -- in Washington, DC for the L'taken Teen Social Justice Seminar through the Religious Action Center of the Union for Reform Judaism. Amanda Weiss and I will be with you the entire time as we travel to the nation's capital for four days of learning, sightseeing, food, and the highlight --- discussing your important social issues at the Capitol with national policy makers.

The attached sample schedule has details, and you can learn more here. I'm also attaching a letter, which some students have used to get as many as 35 community service hours.

Date and Time

We expect to leave Summit mid to late afternoon, Friday, February 21, and return early evening, Monday, February 24, 2020.

The cost of approximately $800, includes our Amtrak travel, three hotel nights at the conveniently located Hyatt Recency in Alexandria, VA, local transportation and most of your meals. This figure represents a generous contribution from the Rabbi Stuart Gershon High School Fund -- participants will be invited to offer a brief report to the Congregation- date and time to be determined.

Registration and Deadline- BEFORE NOVEMBER 15

A deposit of $200 will hold your place. The amount is fully refundable until we actually buy the Amtrak tickets, when we will ask each participant to confirm their reservation. To register, PLEASE CLICK HERE, and your account will be billed upon completion.

As for Me

I have led about a half-dozen L'Taken groups in my previous congregations, and this experience is one of the highlights of my year, as I am sure that the memory will be with your teen for many years to come. Some Temple teens will feature L'taken in their college applications. And under our roof, all three of our kids, now in their late 20's, early 30's, went to L'taken, and their reaction to my just mentioning that I am going always stirs great memories and good conversation. Your kids will react the same way.

Please be in touch with me at to pick out a time to talk if you have any questions or if you wish to ask about an additional subsidy from the Rabbi Stuart Gershon Fund.

With best wishes and the hope to have your teen with us!

Rabbi Dennis S. Ross
