Anafim — A Community Teen Program 2023-2024 Registration

Introducing ANAFIM — A Community Teen Program!

*Broaden your Jewish community by connecting with Jewish teens beyond your home synagogue*
*Deepen your Jewish identity through dynamic Jewish learning, service, and social opportunities*

*ANAFIM* the Hebrew word for "branches" — signifying how our teens are rooted in community and at the same time are branching out together to form a blossoming tree of life and learning.

In an exciting new partnership, three Summit synagogues — Congregation Ohr Shalom, Temple Sinai, and Congregation Beth HaTikvah — are joining forces to bring teen learning to life! From October 2023 through May 2024 the program will include dinner, core classes, electives, and teen travel opportunities.

TRIMESTERS: Enroll in one, two, or all three trimesters!
Weekday programming will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m., starting with a communal dinner each week.

Flexible Enrollment Options: Our new program will run on a trimester system, which means that students in Grades 8, 9, 11, and 12 can choose to enroll in one, two, or all three trimesters. Each trimester will feature stand-alone curricula so that students will complete an entire unit regardless of how they choose to enroll. This system offers flexibility for teens with busy schedules.

Fall term: Tuesdays at Temple Sinai, Oct 3-Nov 28
Winter term: Wednesdays at Congregation Beth HaTikvah, Dec 6-Feb 14
Spring term: Tuesdays at Congregation Ohr Shalom, Feb 27-May 14

Immersive Experiences

Following the success of this year's joint Civil Rights Journey, 8th- and 9th-graders will have the opportunity to travel for four days to the Arizona-Mexico border to learn about immigration justice through a Jewish lens. The trip is organized by Tzedek America and will take place February 16-19, 2024.  The Civil Rights Journey will be offered again in 2025.

Please note: The winter trimester for 8th-9th grade will be focused on content related to the trip, so we highly encourage signing up for both!

Temple Sinai's 10th-12th graders will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism's L'taken Seminar, December 15-18, 2023. There will be tracks for first-timers and returning participants. Contact Rabbi Gluck if you have any questions.

Day trips to local destinations such as NYC and Philly will be offered periodically throughout the year, as well as local service opportunities. Stay tuned!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RISING 10th GRADERS:
Due to the nature of the Confirmation year, students in 10th Grade must enroll for the entire school year. Students from each synagogue will prepare for their respective milestone services with a member of the clergy or other qualified individual from their home synagogue. Confirmation services for students from Temple Sinai and Congregation Ohr Shalom will be scheduled for different evenings to allow teens to attend each other’s services. Students from Congregation Beth HaTikvah will enjoy a related Jewish Life curriculum during this time. 10th Grade students will participate fully in the communal aspects of the program, including dinner, electives, and special programming.

Tuition includes $50 food fee per term.
